Having a gun in the house can be very comforting, knowing that you have a means of protection in case of an emergency. But, unless you live alone, you definitely need a system to keep your gun safe from inquisitive children and other undesirable scenarios. While securing your gun a safe should also be able to provide quick access to your firearm in case of emergencies. The Gunvault GV1000S mini vault standard gun safe is a very perfect safe in this regard, it can be stored anywhere, by the bedside, under the bed and in the closet.
Mine is fitted upside down under my bed, in a position that while I am lying down on the bed. I can just reach my arm below the bed, enter my combination, and it pops open so that I can grab my handgun easily. Definitely there are people who prefer to have their gun safes on a table, but I feel like this is calling for too much attention to the fact that you have a weapon in the bedroom.
Also having it in a closet means that in the case of an emergency, you will have to get up first to go and grab your weapon. This makes upside down under the bed the perfect place for me. The safe comes with screw holes to use in fixing it in any position, so as long as the furniture can carry the weight of the safe and your handgun, you are good to go.

The GV1000S comes with 4 keypads for inputting access codes, but the codes themselves can be any number of digits. At first I was a bit worried about using 4 digit access codes because they only offer 10,000 possible combinations. But then I later learned that the access code must not be always 4 digits and does not even have to include all the four buttons. You are also not limited to pressing just one button at a time, you can press multiple buttons at once when entering code. This puts the number of possible combinations of the keypad codes at 12 million.
The buttons have a certain soft but firm touch to them which gives you the impression that they are well made and durable. They are placed one besides the other in a row in a form resembling the human hand, which makes it possible to slide in your hand and have the four buttons at your four fingertips except the thumb. This is very important so that you don't have to fumble around in a situation of emergency.
Before each button are also braille dots from one to four, signifying which button number it is This feature is very reassuring to me personally, as I have my safe under the bed and have therefore no visual confirmation of whether I am pressing the right buttons or not.
Another very useful benefit of the GV1000S gun safe is the use of battery power. It uses a single 9V battery which lasts many months. Using batteries makes the safe quite portable, increasing mobility as well as flexibility in deciding a good location for it. Had it required electricity wires, it would have been impossible for me to install mine under the bed for example.
The use of batteries also means you can take your safe with you to remote off-the-grid places if you so desire, or build it into your mobile home or anything in that direction. The applications for a mobile battery powered safe are quite plenty, it just depends on your imagination.
The GV1000S safe also comes with a set of keys to open the safe when the batteries are down and need to be changed. Gunvault built the battery deep inside the safe. I think this is a very practical security decision, because an external power source can easily be tampered with.
The GV1000S is manufactured using very solid 16 gauge steel to ensure the protection of your handgun from unauthorized access. The fabrication is of the highest quality and showcases the quality craftsmanship of Gunvault. Everything is properly fitted, and all the parts match perfectly.
This combination of thick steel and good craftsmanship has produced a well secured and robust safe that you can rely on I tested mine out by letting it fall to the floor a few times. It remained solid and unaffected. Also, it is impossible for someone to break into it using hand-tools, Gunvault makes sure of this, and i also had to confirm it to be true and satisfy my own curiosity thereby.
The net weight of the GV1000S is just 9 Pounds. Given its high quality fabrication and excellent security measures, having a low weight is definitely an added benefit. Not being too heavy increases its portability. It can be more easily transported as well as fit into furniture.
If my GV1000S was much heavier for example, i don't think it would have been possible to fit it under my bed hanging downwards in an upside-down position. There are also other situations that require a custom built-in safe, and being too heavy will make it inappropriate in many of these situations.
The Gunvault GV1000S is not only useful in safe-keeping a handgun, valuable items can be stored in it as well For example, jewelry, documents, important keys or a valuable artifact can be safely guarded in the safe as well It therefore comes with a beautiful interior lined with protective foam.
This not only protects various items from scratches, but it also adds a luxurious touch to the safe. It feels better reaching inside it with a foam lined interior, than having to confront the cold and hard surface of the steel. Hence, a little luxury is definitely also important.
While the safe has a very ingenious access code entry system, it offers yet another layer of security with tamper monitoring. Even when a person does not succeed in breaking into your safe, it is still important that any safe owner knows when his safe has been tampered with This is provided with the tamper indicator to warn the owner.
A computer keeps track of the attempts at opening the safe, and after repeated invalid attempts, it will lock the system. Finding out if your safe has been tampered with is simple, just hold down buttons two and three for five seconds. If the red controlled indicator lights up, then it has been tampered with If the green one lights up, then no tampering has occurred.
Q: How many full sized handguns can you fit inside?
A: I would say about three guns can fit in, but getting them out quickly might be an issue.
Q: Is there a security cable?
A: Yes, provisions are made for using security cables to secure the safe, although cables are optional accessions.
To end this Gunvault GV1000S mini vault standard gun safe review, I will happily say that I am very satisfied with my own safe and I am also sure that you too will be satisfied with your own safe. Yes, I will recommend it to anyone who needs a small, light-weight, robust and secure safe that enables the quick retrieval of his or her firearm in an emergency.
Having switched my safe to stealth-mode, where it makes no beeping sounds, I can now silently and quickly pull my Glock from under my bed in any time of need. Yes, there are many products out there, but the quality, ease-of-use, and price of this Gunvault safe, make it a worthy purchase that any gun owner will be happy with for years to come.
